尼古拉·阿列克谢耶维奇·奥斯特洛夫斯基
1904年9月29日出生在乌克兰沃伦省奥斯特罗格县维里亚村的一个贫困家庭，他排行第五，初级教会小学毕业后，因家境贫寒不得不辍学。11岁便开始当童工。1919年进发电厂当司炉助手。1927年底，奥斯特洛夫斯基在与病魔做斗争的同时，创作了一篇关于科托夫骑兵旅成长壮大以及英勇征战的中篇小说。两个月后小说写完了，他把小说封好让妻子寄给敖德萨科托夫骑兵旅的战友们，征求他们的意见，战友们热情地评价了这部小说，可万万没想到，不幸的是，唯一一份手稿在寄给朋友们审读时被邮局弄丢了。这一残酷的打击并没有挫败他的坚强意志，反而使他更加顽强地同疾病作斗争。1929年，他全身瘫痪，双目失明。1930年，他用自己的战斗经历作素材，以顽强的意志开始创作长篇小说《钢铁是怎样炼成的》。小说获得了巨大成功，受到同时代人的真诚而热烈的称赞。1936年12月22日，由于重病复发，奥斯特洛夫斯基在莫斯科逝世。
